Sights and facts
| Km 3 | Tinizong. Tinizong was already mentioned in a Roman street index from the 3rd Century. It was of importance as a goods transfer point on the Septimer and Julier routes in the Middle Ages. |
We now head up to a plateau with its various Alps. This plateau is frequently quoted as being a treasure trove of biodiversity in an impressive natural environment. Numerous longer or shorter hiking tours can be undertaken here in both summer and winter.
| Km 15 | Alp Flix. Those who wish to shorten today’s tiring leg of the tour can find accommodation for the night in a mountain guesthouse on Alp Flix.

| Km 18 | Marmorera. The historic village of Marmorera was already populated in the Middle Ages. After the Second World War, Marmorera offered the city of Zurich a concession for a reservoir for the production of electrical power on favorable terms. With questionable methods and against strong opposition from a minority, the Zurich emissary managed to persuade the majority of the villagers to give up their homeland.
The flooding began in 1954. Before that, all the buildings in the old village were destroyed. The cemetery was to be concreted, but the residents managed to have the dead exhumed and buried a second time in a new cemetery in the new Marmorera village. This cemetery is an important memorial for the unusual process in Switzerland. The church and school building, 29 houses and 52 stables fell victim to the construction of the Marmorera reservoir. |
| Km 21.5 | Bivio. The development of this documented 9th Century settlement very closely followed the development of the traffic over the Septimer and Julier Passes. Both of these Passes, which were periodically of European importance, link Bivio with the Bergell and Engadin. Stallerberg, an important regional link, leads to Avers, a Walsers settlement. The place sits at the crossroads of different languages and culture, whereby the key influences came from the south, from Bergell. The almost 200 inhabitants speak three languages: Italian, Romansh and German.
